The Fat Reality- Are we eating right?

Fat, fat, fat! Would all our weight loss problems be solved if we just eliminated fats from our diets? Unfortunately, its not that simple.

There is a weird trend where people believe that fats is not good for their body and it should be cut down completely. And in this process many people begin to ignore that there are good fats which are required for metabolism and hormonal production.

Fats are essential for the human body and without it we cannot survive. Apart from having additional benefits, in times of fasting, the fat stored in our body can be used as a form of energy.

Thus to understand easily, there are 3 L’s to describe the kind of fats:

Love it- Unsaturated Fats

Limit it- Saturated Fats

Lose it- Trans Fats

Hence choosing the right kind of fat is very important.

The reason that fat accumulates in our body is because we consume man-made/vegetable fat like butter, refined oil, compound chocolate(which has low cocoa content). Instead of this we should intake natural fat like cheese, eggs, dark chocolate.

The most important thing is to read the label before consuming any product.

It’s easy to get confused between the good fats and the bad fats.

Thus, here is a list of the fats that we should consume and the ones we should avoid.

FATS TO BE TAKEN FATS TO BE AVOIDED
OLIVE OIL INDUSTRIAL OIL
PEANUT BUTTER PASTRIES
WHOLE EGGS BEER/SODA
FATTY FISH FRIED ITEMS
WALNUTS MOST PIZZA’S
REGULAR CHEESE PROCESSED CHEESE
DARK CHOCOLATE COMPOUND CHOCOLATE
HIGH FAT YOGURT LOW FAT YOGURT

People think vegetable oil is good for health because it has the word vegetable in it. This is untrue as it has large amount of fats and is harmful for us. An alternate could be olive/coconut oil.

Whole eggs are very rich in protein and are really good for our body. But the egg yolk contains high amount of fats along with nutrients and omega3 fatty acids. So according to your body requirements, you can consume 2-4 eggs daily.

Fish can be eaten twice a week (not fried fish :P). It is good for health and reduces heart problems. An alternate for it is consuming fish oil supplement. But it is always preferable to intake protein from diet rather than supplements, if possible.

Yogurt cures health diseases. But its important to know what kind of it are you buying. Low fat, high sugar yogurt should be avoided. Instead, full fat yogurt should be consumed. Home-made yogurt is the best though.

Dark chocolate has good fats and improves our brain function and protects skin from damage. But milk chocolate like dairy milk or Nutella is unhealthy because of low cocoa content and hence should be avoided.

Fried potato should be avoided. Boiled potato is good for health. How healthy a potato is depends to some extent on what is added/ how it is cooked.

Thus the quality of fat is more important than the quantity of fat. In terms of waistline, all fats have same amount of calories and it is necessary to burn the fat we eat. But in terms of health/diseases, trans fat should be avoided because it accumulates and leads to cardio problems.

HOPE YOU MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE NOW. HAVE A FITTASTIC WEEKEND AHEAD.
